Transnistria switched off the central heating

In Transnistria, the central heating was switched off on January 1, 2025 due to the lack of Russian gas supplies, as the transit contract via Ukraine has expired. Only medical facilities remain heated, while gas can temporarily only be used for cooking in residential buildings. As a result of the energy crisis, a state of economic emergency has been in force in Transnistria since December 11, 2024. A state of emergency has also been declared in the Republic of Moldova due to the energy crisis, with the country now increasingly sourcing electricity from Romania and local sources.
