Changes from December Germany:

Increase in basic and child allowance


USB-C charging cable becomes mandatory (01.12.2024), from 2026 this will also apply to laptops


Deutsche Telekom discontinues directory assistance services (01.12.2024): Domestic directory assistance, international directory assistance and wake-up service to be discontinued.


Netflix ends interactive content: Production of interactive content is discontinued. Titles already published are removed with a few exceptions.


Deutsche Bahn: Ticket price increases: Flex prices rise by an average of 5.9%. BahnCard 100 becomes more expensive: €4,899 (2nd class), €7,999 (1st class). Economy fares: From €21.99 (instead of €17.99).


Higher pension entitlements: allowance for income for the basic pension: €1,375 for single people, €2,145 for couples. Income above €1,759 or €2,530 is fully taken into account.


Last chance for inflation adjustment premium (31.12.2024): Employers can pay out a bonus of up to €3,000 free of tax and social security contributions until 31.12.2024. Employees must actively point this out by the end of December.


Seasonal short-time working allowance in bad weather: Applies to construction companies, roofers, scaffolders and gardening and landscaping companies. Employees receive 60% of net wages (67% with a child in the household).


Deadlines for shareholder managing directors: Salary increases and bonus adjustments for 2025 must be decided by 31.12.2024.

Swiss Post discontinues petty cash (31.12.2024): Credit account for letters and parcels can no longer be used.


Giropay is discontinued (31.12.2024): Online payment method used by German banks is abolished.


Amazon discontinues services: Amazon Fresh: delivery service for fresh food ends on 14.12.2024. Amazon Freevee: advertising-financed streaming service is abolished.


Wage increase for roofers (01.12.2024): Wage increase of 3.8%. Training allowances: €950 (1st year of apprenticeship), €1,100 (2nd year of apprenticeship), €1,370 (3rd year of apprenticeship).


Deadlines for Christmas mail: Domestic: standard parcels until 20.12.2024, letters/postcards until 21.12.2024. International: neighboring countries until 14.12.2024, worldwide until 26.11.2024 (with Premium until 03.12.2024).


Price changes at Audi: combustion models: price increase of 1.9%. Electric cars: price reduction of up to 7%.


Christmas tree prices rise: Nordmann firs cost €22-30 per meter (depending on region and supplier).


Cyber Monday: discounts on technology (02.12.2024): Tech deals and discounts after Black Friday.


Winter solstice: The days get longer from 22.12.2024.
