The Trump plan for a ceasefire in Ukraine suggests that Ukraine should give up Crimea in order to achieve peace, rather than retaking territory. Trump's advisor Brian Lanza stated that a new US administration would focus on stability. There is speculation that British and US troops could create a buffer zone along the current line of contact to separate the two countries' forces, but this would be problematic for Russia as it would mean a NATO presence on its border. Alternatively, a demilitarized zone like in Korea could be created. Crimea and the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson would remain under Russian control. Questions regarding the Russian language, demilitarization and denazification, the legal status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a guarantee that Ukraine will not join NATO remain unclear.
