Russian airstrikes in Aleppo

Russian airstrikes were reported in Aleppo, Syria, for the first time since 2016. These came after the jihadist group Haiat Tahrir al-Sham took control of large parts of the city and important facilities. At least 16 people died and over 300 casualties were counted in the entire offensive. Government troops have withdrawn and are preparing a counterattack. Russia, a supporter of the Syrian government since 2015, responded to the losses with the attacks.
