In October, 1,530 German companies filed for insolvency. This is 17% more than in September and 48% more than in the same month in 2023. This made October the worst October since 2004, according to calculations by the Institute for Economic Research of the Leibniz Association in Halle (IWH). It is the highest number of insolvent German companies in 20 years.
